Dallas Baptist Star Signs With Waterloo

From the Waterloo Bucks Press Release
Waterloo, IA - The Waterloo Bucks Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, announced today the signing of Dallas Baptist University infielder/right handed pitcher Ryan Goins. Goins, a 5’11”, 182-pound sophomore, marks the 28th player to sign with the Bucks for the upcoming season.

On March 21, Goins lit up the stat sheet with a 2-for-4, four RBI, one home run performance in a 19-6 Patriot win over Oral Roberts and followed that up with a 4-for-5, three double, one home run, and four runs scored outing in a 9-8 victory against Sam Houston State on March 25. On the season, the left-handed hitting Goins has played in 37 games and is batting .351 with seven home runs, 10 doubles, and 31 RBI. On the mound, the Round Rock, Texas native has started seven games and is 3-1 with a 4.31 ERA and 27 strikeouts.

Bucks skipper Pete Lauritson hopes Goins will be able to translate his college success to success in the Northwoods.“Ryan is a duel threat guy that is going to be used in the two spot and depending on the pitching match up, may also hit fifth or sixth to help drive in runs,” said Lauritson. “Ryan comes from one of the best coaching staffs in the nation so he brings a lot of value to this team.”

Last summer Goins was a member of the Mineral Wells Steam of the Texas Collegiate League. The right-hander saw action both on the mound and as a position player. In seven appearances on the hill, Goins went 2-2 with a 4.28 ERA and 35 strikeouts. At the plate, Goins batted .243 with three home runs, nine doubles and 18 RBI.
