Players To Watch For In 2009--Colby Betz and Paul Bingham

Today I am changing things up a bit, as instead of having one Player to Watch for, I have a couple teammates to watch for. Colby Betz and Paul Bingham are teammates at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Both have flown under the national radar, but I am expecting big things in 09 for them.

Colby Betz (left) is a junior pitcher from Dillsburg, PA. He played high school ball at Northern York High School. The 6-3/200 pound righty had a great 2008 for the Crimson Hawks. He went 7-1, with a 2.93 era in 61.1 innings pitched. He gave up 56 hits and only walked 12. He also fanned 56 batters. After his fine 2008 season, he was named to the NCAA D2 All-North Atlantic 2nd Team and to the All-PSAC West 1st Team. As a true freshman in 07, he went 4-5, with a 3.92 era in 57.1 innings of work. He gave up 63 hits and only walked 8 on the year. He also fanned 47 batters in 2007. This past summer, Colby signed a 10-day contract with the Hyannis Mets of the Cape Cod League. He decided to rest his arm, thus he didn't pitch for the Mets.

Paul Bingham (left) is a junior ss from Hanover, PA. The 6-3/200 pound star played high school baseball at South Western High School. In 2007 he hit .409/.511/.500 in 137 at-bats. He scored 38 runs, drove in 13 and smacked 6 doubles that year. He was also 16 for 16 in stolen bases. He was named to the All-PSAC West 2nd Team. This past year he hit .392/.528/.478 in 176 at-bats. He scored 51 runs and drove in an amazing 49 runners. He smacked 10 doubles and 7 triples. He was also 20 of 25 in stolen bases. He was also named to the All-PSAC West 2nd Team. Paul spent his summer playing for the Winchester Royals of the Valley Baseball League. He hit .246 in 65 at-bats. He scored 10 run, drove in 4, and stole 2 bases.
