Player To Watch For in 2010--Phil Schreiber

Throughout the fall and winter, I will be highlighting, spotlighting or mentioning players that I believe are poised to have either big seasons in 2010 or are poised to have a breakout season. Again, I'm not a scout in any way or shape. The one constant factor in my picking of the players is that they all had productive summer seasons.

Phil Schreiber is a Sophomore RHP from Kaukauna, WI. He is 6-0/190 pounds and starred in high school at Kaukauna High School. Perfect Game Crosschecker ranked him as the #2 high school prospect in Wisconsin.

This past spring, Phil went 2-2, with a 4.57 era in 45.1 innings pitched for Iowa. He surrendered 60 hits and 9 walks, while striking out 21 batters. 9 of his 14 appearances were starts of Iowa.

Phil pitched for the Springfield Sliders of the Prospect League this past summer, and he showed why he has such a huge upside. He went a perfect 6-0, with a 1.30 in 48.1 innings pitched. He gave up just 36 hits and 17 walks. He struck out 51 batters and held opponents to a .207 batting average. 6 of his 8 games were starts for the Sliders. He was tied for 2nd in the league in wins and was 2nd in the league in ERA.
