Indiana University of Pennsylvania infielder Robbie Zinsmeister has signed a summer league contract with the Quakertown Blazers of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League.
Zinsmeister (Fr, 6-0, 180) is a 2009 graduate of North Penn High School in Hatfield, PA, located north of Philadelphia. His high school team won the PIAA State AAAA Championship.
"Robbie is a true shortstop who will be looked upon to both anchor our infield and be an offensive catalyst," said IUP head coach Jeff Ditch. "He has all the tools and is a very skilled athlete who will give our team a tremendous edge in the highly competitive PSAC. Yet most importantly, he is a star student and will shine academically. The Blazers will be getting a very good player next summer."
Zinsmeister was named the Suburban One National League Player of the Year, Philadelphia Inquirer All Southeastern team and team MVP during his high school career. He was the lead-off hitter and shortstop for the 2008 Carpenter Cup Champion Suburban One National/Bicentennial team. The Carpenter Cup is a tri-state all-star event sponsored by the Philadelphia Phillies and held annually at Citizens Bank Ballpark. He was a shortstop in the Pennsylvania American Legion East-West All-Star game in Harrisburg as a representative of the Hatfield American Legion.
He is the son of Robert and Allyson Zinsmeister.
IUP is a Division II school in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Since 2006, IUP baseball has been ranked nationally by Collegiate Baseball, Ping!Baseball, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, posted a school record 36 wins in 2008, PSAC West Runner-up, participated in the PSAC Post Season, recorded 20 school records, earned a 3.08 cumulative team GPA, 108 Dean's List honors, 44 PSAC scholar awards, and two PSAC Top Ten scholar awards.
